God allows David adultery and polygamy How many wives did David have? In Deuteronomy 17:17, the accumulation of wives is forbidden. In Exodus 20:14, Deuteronomy 5:18, and Leviticus 20:10, adultery is forbidden. In Deuteronomy 22, the punishment for adultery is death to both the man and the woman. God, however, did not punish David.
